Our Vision

Founded in 1904, the NAVY-MARINE CORPS RELIEF SOCIETY is a private, non-profit, charitable organization. As a Center of Excellence, we exist solely to support the active and retired communities of the Naval Service. Located at approximately 235 offices ashore and afloat throughout the world, the Society’s work is accomplished mainly by its 3,400 dedicated, trained, and caring Volunteers who are supported by a small cadre of paid employees.

The Society’s mission is to provide – in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps – financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Service of the United States, their eligible family members and survivors, when in need; and to manage funds to administer these programs.

Emergency Aid ($33.7 million)                                 

Food and shelter; vehicle repairs;  household set up; medical and dental; funeral; emergency transportation; miscellaneous

 

·       35,637 financial assistance cases               

·       $27.6M NMCRS interest-free loans                         

·       $6.1M NMCRS grants                                                

·       Includes $1.2M in Combat Casualty Assistance to 778 clients

·       Includes $1.37M in Financial Assistance directly

·       attributable to 1, 693 clients victimized by the

·       predatory lending industry

·       Includes $.5M in Assistance to 96 Widows

·       Includes $1M Assistance to other Military Services

Education Program ($4.1 million)

 Helping Navy and Marine Corps service members and their families pursue their academic goals

Other Forms of Assistance

Layettes – "Junior Seabags" furnished to 7,000 new family members

Visiting Nurses – Visiting Nurses made more than 34,000 patient contacts

Thrift Shops – 28 "boutiques" provided low-cost clothing and household items

Casework Services – 9,776 individual counseling and referral cases

Source of Funds

Contributions – Active Duty and Retiree solicitation, bequests and memorials

Among the Largest Single Contributions- Navy-Marine Corps Ball in Washington, DC

Largest Source of Funds – Client repayment of interest-free loans

Other Sources – Spontaneous donations from individuals, organizations and corporations; Investments and receipts  from Thrift Shops
